To Dave64:

As it stands, the airport will seize the Winslow Field city park without any compensation to the city. The city actually purchased this park 60 or so years ago. The airport should compensate the city for this taking. Also, the proposed new location for the ball fields includes city streets. This is also true for the possible runway extension. The city should be compensated for these streets. With the right for legal action preserved, the city can demand that these properties be paid for by the airport. That is reason enough to pay an attorney to force the airport to pay for the property it is seizing. The airport must also pay for flood mitigation and stormwater runoff mitigation. These items are not funded by the federal government at this point. The attorney will also address that issue.

It is the mayor's duty to protect city property. He turned his back to this responsibility. Thus, the City Council stepped into his place.
