Two letters to the editor from Danny Hall in one issue of the Beacon is a little over the top. But worse yet they are both attack letters. Putting the above letter into context everybody should remember that Danny is a public sector employee who was impacted by Pension Reform here in Rhode Island.

His job as Republican City Committee Chairman is to bring the various factions of the party together not be the mayor's attack dog.

How he can say that the mayor and Ms. Raimondo are on the same page is truly a head scratch. The mayor makes a big deal about the pension systems being "self correcting" when they are not. Only the current fire and police contracts have that provision in them - that the employees pay one third of the cost. The others have fixed contributions, municipal employees, school department support staff and the state run teachers pension.

It is going to be interesting to see what happens when the actuaries come back with the increased employee contributions from the fire and police. I suspect the unions will be looking for an adjustment to that language when the employees are asked to contribute even more for their pensions. Then the mayor will be in the position to join the Raimondo fold and demand lower benefits. If that happens, Mr. Hall might have something to crow about.

Perhaps he should become more like the Republicans we see on TV and start working toward that end. It would be far more helpful for him to do that than bark up the citizens' trees when they exercise their right to free speech.
