Pertaining to auto taxes, Councilwoman Donna Travis is 4 quarters behind in paying her taxes and has not made a payment yet this year. In addition, both other members of her immediate family (both of who work for the city of Warwick) are in arrears as well. In fact, one family member is behind 1/2 of 2010, all of 2011, and 2 quarters of 2012.

Furthermore, looking into Travis' property taxes we have noted that she is also in arrears with her property on Oakland Beach Ave. Looking back 5 years into her property taxes the city records indicate that she has never made a payment on time in accordance with the quarterly schedule.

This is particularly disturbing since Councilwoman Travis sits on the Council Finance Committee and has championed property and auto tax increases year after year. A reasonable person would conclude that if she cannot maintain her own fiscal house in order, she should be disqualified for sitting on a finance committee that votes on tax policies.

It has also been noted that Council President Bruce Place feels as though he can make payments to his 3 properties in Warwick, whenever he feels like it. Not only is Place behind on his taxes on 3 houses this year, but the city web site indicates that in 2011 he missed payment on 3 houses for 2 quarters (July and Oct.), paid his taxes in November, and no interest was charged on the account. Similarly, in 2010, his taxes on the 3 properties were not paid until October, and no interest was accrued. Place has resigned effective Nov. of this year and has purchased a house in North Kingston. Will he pay his taxes on time in North Kingston?
