NOTE: My comments below are more than justified since I live directly across (about) 30 to forty feet from the outfield of one of the size softball fields and have so since 1953.

The title of this article IS INCORRECT and should read: "Parking Biggest Concern Of Fields Relocation Plan."

Chuck McCaughey of the Apponaug Girls Softball can attest to this... He knows...

You'll need a parking lot the size of Wally World from the movie "National Lampoon's Vacation" starring Chevy Chase...

The Key Plan shows on the layout of the proposed Winslow Park show "J" and "K" as off-street parking and street parking respectively.

As we all know this is no where designed to handle the capacity of those who will be using the facilities. They'll park in your driveways if they think they can get away with it.

Remember folks... those who live in the Lake Shore Drive area beware of these people who will be parking illegally.

The one big distinction (and which I see as problematic) with the newly proposed Winslow Park is the three soccer fields are now located or grouped with the six softball fields. Currently the three soccer fields are located about a quarter mile from the Winslow Park main entrance.

I don't know why the planners don't allow the Lake Shore Drive neighbors to get involved in the design of the proposed Winslow Park.

A suggestion to RIAC CEO Peter Frazier, city planners and Ward 3 Councilwoman Camille Vella-Wilkinson.

Make the neighbors of Lake Shore Drive WELL AWARE IN ADVANCE of the upcoming 2013 Apponaug Girls Softball major tournament

schedule particularly the Summer Slam tournament, Richard Durning Memorial and the Ocean State Invitational tournaments which are normally held approximately in the middle of June, July (second week) and July (third week) respectively so the neighbors will have the opportunity to visit these tournaments to see how many people there are. Saturday (the second day of each tournament) is the best time to come even if you just take a "drive-thru" to see the amount of people and congestion. Remember there are a lot of teams from out of state who participate in these tournaments.

After tournament season is over, RIAC CEO Peter Frazier, city planners and Ward 3 Councilwoman Camille Vella-Wilkinson ought to get the neighbors together again for another meeting and allow there input after first hand experience with going to these tournaments... As they say a picture is worth a thousand words...
