Warwick Taxpayers ALREADY pay for their childrens' education. The decline in Warwick's student population is not going to go away & the Warwick School Committee needs to accept that fact. Why wouldn't the subcommittees study both possibilities of closing a junior high & a senior high at the same time. They wouldn't HAVE TO close both at the end of the same school year, but it appears, based on student enrollment & future projections(including airport expansion), that at some future point a junior & senior high school(as well as maybe at least one elementary school) will require closing to provide/maintain the curriculum offered to students. I suggest that Warwick study the Cranston Public School System; overall the two districts have similar size/populations/student enrollment. Cranston has a two junior/middle & senior high school system & a smaller education budget; its tight but they make it work. Warwick wants to avoid budget problems caused by delaying the inevitable; it needs to review options to reduce costs/spending NOW before they are required to down the road; if the school committee waits too long the only likely area they will be able to reduce/cut costs will be the curriculum offered to its students.
