You can not argue that the governent should play a more minimal role in enforcement while simultaneously lobbying for more government treatment and "education" programs. Government should have either a broader role or more minimal role. As a never-smoked-pot taxpayer, I endorse a more minimal role, including a whole scale cutback in government sponsored treatment and education. If you want to get high it's your business. But if you endanger the public through your drug use (much like drinking), I would endorse significantly harsher penalties. Not surprisingly, I haven't heard a single pol take such a position.
