Kind of a simple statement regarding Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I agree with davebarry109, the alternatives to use would have been far more destructive and the lives lost significantly higher. Take a look at the historical record of the estimated loss of life if ground forces had to be used on the Japan mainland. I had a uncle who was a POW in Tokyo at the time the bombs were dropped. He was Liberated soon after. Not so, if the war continued.
