This is not the fault of any union member. They made their contributions out of every single paycheck they ever earned. During the Cacieri administration they negotiated concessions 3 different times on health insurance costs, and pension costs. The fault is in the hands of the state and the General Assembly, because for years they didn't make their contributions. The same problem is happening in many cities and towns across the state. These pensions are under-funded because government turned it's back on the people who have been serving it for years. You said it yourself "bendover" CONTRACT. Neither side could take a chance of what the judge was going to rule. It's a shame that Treasurer Raimondo decided to sellout the taxpayers 3 years after she sold out the unions. Gina Raimondo's true colors have come out, and she has shown she will do anything it takes to get elected. Including raising hundreds of thousands of dollars from out of state donors in the financial sector. Hmm I wonder why an out of state financial sector employee would want to see the state treasurer elected? This is the person in charge of the state Pension system, and she is raising money from companies she's investing their money in? Nobody thinks that's a conflict of interest? Blaming the unions is sending the anger to the wrong place. It is the fault of the General Assembly who raises money from the unions, negotiated favorable contracts to them, and then turned around and blamed them when the system was ready to crash. Rhode Island deserves what it gets for sending the same people back to the General Assembly and expecting different results. Look no further than Warwick...many times the names don't change, and even when they do the song remains the same.
