10th final Round Rhody LIFEcycle is this Sunday

Posted

This Sunday’s Ride ‘Round Rhody (RRR), LIFEcycle Inc.’s premier cycling event in support of local cancer research and treatment, is looking to be the largest event in its history.

As this will be the 10th annual and final RRR, the non-profit has seen spiked rider numbers as past and new riders sign up to be included in the annual cycling event. Just days before the ride, registrant numbers are looking to surpass its highest participation in 2016.

So far, over 150 riders are registered to take to the road at Ride ‘Round Rhody and over $50,000 of LIFEcycle’s  $150,000 fundraising goal has been reached.

Since its inception by Jacob and Dani Brier in 2009, LIFEcycle has raised more than $600,000 in support of local cancer research and treatment and awarding grants to Rhode Island hospitals and treatment centers.

“Usually by early summer, I’m already looking toward the next RRRide, thinking of ways to accomplish more,” Jacob Brier, cofounder of LIFEcycle said. “This year, I have taken the time to reflect back on all we’ve accomplished together. It’s pretty incredible.”

Rhode Island Congressman David Cicilline will attend this year as a special guest to commence the opening ceremonies before the 15-milers take off at 9 a.m.

As the former mayor of Providence, Cicilline kicked off the first event in 2009, so his return for the final ride comes full circle.

Fundraising for RRR will remain open until September 1st for riders who still need to reach their fundraising minimum or those looking to simply donate.

Though 2018 will mark the final RRR, as a non-profit LIFEcycle will continue to operate and raise money for local cancer research efforts in other capacities. The plan moving forward is to still award grant money to local hospitals and organizations. Over the next year, the board of directors intends to strategically evaluate its organizational needs, as well as a funding strategy to support its mission.

For those looking to join in on the fun, registration will be available on site at Farmer’s Daughter for $250, and there are still volunteer openings for those looking to get involved this Sunday, July 29.
