Cancer has nothing on Brandon Lavender.

The 12-year-old cancer survivor will hold his fifth yard sale to fight the disease this Saturday and Sunday. And this one promises to be bigger than ever before.

Money from the sale will go to the Tomorrow Fund, which is a non-profit organization to help families with financial situations of childhood cancer since 1985.

Brandon was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia when he was just 14 months old, which is the most common type of cancer for children.

Brandon’s mother, Sandra Lavender, said how when he was only 7 years old he had asked her if he could have a yard sale to raise money. The Hoxsie student was 8 when he had his first sale raising about $100.

“He’s amazing! He always talks about giving back and helping others,” said Sandra with pride.

People can bring clothes and other donations for the yard sale to Brandon’s grandmother’s, Melody, house at 25 Mawney Dr. Sandra also has rented a U-Haul truck to make donation pickups. She can be reached at 744-3065.

“I want to name the yard sales, Brandon’s Moonwalkers,” said Brandon.

From toys, furniture, clothes, baby clothes, money, you name it. Brandon’s mother, Sandra, his aunt, Jessica, and his grandmother, Melody, all help with the sale.

This year Brandon’s goal is to beat last year’s, where he raised about $2,335.

“I plan on keeping this going for a long time,” said Brandon.

This year the sale will be held at Sweet Z’s, 826 West Shore Rd. The ice cream store donated space for the sale, April 6 and 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hoxsie Principal Gary McCoombs said that Brandon raises awareness in his school by passing out flyers and making announcements.

“Brandon has such a great spirit,” said McCoombs.

McCoombs called the sales “such a great cause.”
