$2 million Powerball ticket sold in Warwick

A lucky lottery player whose identity remains unknown holds a $2 million ticket purchased at I.M. Gan Discount Liquors on Warwick Avenue.

The staff at I.M. Gan was shocked to learn yesterday that a Powerball ticket with such a large prize was sold at their establishment. When told, nearly everyone at the store checked their wallets to see if they held the winning ticket, to no avail. As of Monday evening, the prize remained unclaimed.

Saturday’s drawing was for an estimated $90 million Powerball prize, and a Washington state player picked all six correct numbers in the multi-state game. The ticket purchased in Warwick had five correct numbers; with a multiplier option that increased the prize from one to $2 million. The winning numbers were 13-24-30-42-48, with a Powerball of 27.

John Hogan has owned I.M. Gan for the last seven and a half years. Known historically as the first liquor store in the city, the store sells more 1,000 lottery tickets a week. This was the largest ticket prize ever sold at the store.

“We have a lot of regulars that come in to play weekly, so it’s certainly possible the winner could be one of them. We’ll have to wait and see, but we’ll certainly try to find who it is,” said John. “My advice would be that they find a good lawyer and financial advisor!”

Auggie Zabbo, store manager, is believed to be the one who sold the winning ticket. He was thrilled to hear the news and wished the winners the best.

“It’s awesome, I’m glad someone came here to buy that winning ticket, and I’m more than willing to share,” joked Auggie. “This is great news, I hope that it’s an early Christmas present for them.”
