2013 Kingston Chamber Music Festival July 24-Aug. 4
Six regular evening concerts will be performed at the University of Rhode Island Fine Arts Center Concert Hall, Upper College Road, Kingston, July 24, 26, 28, 31 and Aug. 2 and 4, all at 8 p.m., with one Special Founders Concert July 25 at 7 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 383 Old North Road, Kingston.
On the occasion of its 25th season in 2013, the Kingston Chamber Music Festival salutes its past by welcoming the return of its celebrated founder, violinist David Kim, and looks to the future with the debut of a phenomenally gifted newcomer, 23-year-old violinist Benjamin Beilman. Kim, concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the festival’s artistic director until 2008, will open the two-week festival July 24, taking the solo lead in Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and perform in four other concerts, including a special Founders Concert in an intimate church setting on July 25.
Beilman, a recent first prize winner at several international competitions, will appear at the festival’s last three concerts, including Aug. 2, when he will negotiate Bach’s intricate Chaconne for solo violin on Aug. 2.
The two violinists will appear together to close the festival on Aug. 4 as part of a fabulous quartet of violinists in Mendelssohn’s beloved Octet. Joining Kim and Beilman on violin will be Joseph Lin, first violinist of the Juilliard String Quartet, and Jasmine Lin, a favorite with Kingston audiences.
Also making a Kingston debut in 2013 will be New York City’s Talea Ensemble, one of the premiere contemporary music groups in the country, on July 26 as part of a special concert featuring all women composers, and on July 28. In all, 23 artists from major orchestras and ensembles will participate in the two-week festival.
