The second annual Skate for Shriners fundraising event is set for this Saturday at Boss Ice Arena in Kingston from 7 to 10 p.m.
The family-friendly event includes two hours of family ice time, along with music and food.
David Prata, Hallowed Entertainment Group, LLC founder, started this event last year in honor of his mother, Elaine G. Prata. A wife and mother of two, Elaine battled Scoliosis, but was dedicated to living each day to the fullest. Because ice-skating was one of her favorite activities while growing up, David decided a skating event was the best way to honor his mother after her death.
“The Shriners Hospital was an integral part of Elaine’s surgeries, and that is why our fundraiser will benefit them directly, so they may continue their mission to help children, no matter their family’s ability to pay,” said David.
Last year’s inaugural event had only one hour of skate time and raised $775. Because this year’s event has been expanded to include a second hour for families who cannot attend the earlier hour, the goal for this year’s event is to raise $2,000 or more for Shriners Hospital for Children in Boston.
Shriners Hospital relies on both direct giving and fundraising events such as this to provide life-saving care to children without placing a financial burden on their families.
Tickets can be purchased in advance for $17 at www.skateforshriners.com or for $20 at the door.
