Former councilman and candidate for mayor, Joseph Gallucci, retires today as the city’s director of elections after a career of public service spanning more than 30 years. Gallucci, who said he didn’t want a testimonial dinner, couldn’t escape without a farewell party planned by his successor, Donna MacDonald, yesterday at City Hall. Many of Gallucci’s family turned out, former city employees and as pictured here, Joseph McGair, left and Joseph Walsh, right. McGair and Gallucci served on the city council together and were Democratic primary opponents in a 3-way race with Francis Flaherty in 1982. Walsh was the mayor at the time. Gallucci is not sure what he’ll do in retirement, but he won’t be idle.
