3 police promoted at City Hall ceremony
Warwick Police held a promotional ceremony in City Council Chambers Tuesday evening at which Detective Lieut. Kenneth Furtado was promoted to the rank of Captain. Det. Joseph Petrarca was promoted to the rank of sergeant. Patrol Officers Jedidiah Pineau and Theodore Bulis were promoted to the rank of detective.
Mayor Scott Avedisian gave the oath of office to all the newly promoted officers. The Warwick Board of Public Safety approved the promotions. The ceremony was attended by City Council members Steven Colantuono, Joseph Solomon, Donna Travis and Camille Vella-Wilkinson. The Rev. Robert Marciano, the department chaplain, gave the invocation/benediction.
Captain Furtado is a 16-year veteran of the Warwick PD, having joined the department in 1996 and having previously served with the Exeter, New Hampshire PD. He is a graduate of Tufts University with a degree in Psychology in 1994 and received his MA in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College. He has served in the Patrol Bureau, the Detective Division and the Community Policing Unit of the Community Services Division. His last assignment was with the Detective Division as Assistant Division Commander. He is the recipient of numerous commendations for outstanding police work.
Sergeant Petrarca is an 11-year veteran of the WPD, having previously served with the Scituate PD for three years. He has a BA in Criminal Justice from Salve Regina University. He has served in the Patrol & Traffic Divisions with his last assignment in the Detective Division. He is also a recipient of numerous commendations for outstanding police work.
Detective Pineau is a six-year veteran of the WPD, having previously served in the Patrol Division. He has a BS in Criminal Justice from Westfield State College. His last assignment also included serving as a field-training officer for newly sworn officers.
Detective Bulis is a nine-year veteran of the WPD, having previously served in the Patrol and Traffic Divisions. He is a graduate of Providence College with a degree in Finance. He is a recipient of several departmental commendations for outstanding police work.
