Arguably Hendricken’s best football team in school history ended its season in ideal fashion.
The Hawks completed their unbeaten season with a 48-28 victory over La Salle in the Super Bowl in early December, as senior Kwity Paye motored through the Rams’ defense for four touchdowns to earn the MVP honor.
The victory gave Hendricken an unprecedented seventh consecutive state championship.
La Salle scored the game’s first touchdown on a short rush by quarterback Andrew Wright, but it was all Hendricken after that.
A 68-yard rushing touchdown by senior running back Matt DiTondo on third-and-15 tied the game at 6. Hawks’ quarterback Chris Hindle gave his team a lead with a rushing score of his own, before Paye found the end zone twice before halftime to give Hendricken a commanding, 27-6 lead at the break.
The second half was highlighted by two more Paye touchdowns, as the Hawks were able to hold off their biggest rival once again.
