Approximately 400 students representing more than 50 schools from across the state will participate in the RI Science and Engineering Fair this weekend at the Knight Campus of CCRI. Competing students have been chosen from more than 5,000 of their peers who completed science projects at their schools.
On Saturday, a panel of 200 schoolteachers, college professors and science professionals will judge the projects and select 10 Finalists in each of the junior and senior divisions. On Sunday, the finalists are judged by a specially selected team of judges to determine two “Best in Fair Winners” for the junior and senior divisions, which are announced at the Awards Ceremony March 19 at CCRI in Warwick.
Students are also awarded special awards including many from local industry, a Governor’s and First lady’s award and scholarships to state universities and colleges. The fair is open to the public on Sunday, March 16 from noon to 3 p.m.
The two “Best in Fair Seniors” then go on to represent Rhode Island at the International Science and Engineering Fair. The 2014 ISEF will be held Los Angeles, Calif. in May.
