4th Pagano Foundation Golf Tournament raises $21,000 to support local youth initiatives

The fourth annual golf tournament for the Lt. Jim Pagano Foundation was held at the Alpine Country Club in Cranston on Aug. 10, and the event was a success all around.

In total, 133 golfers participated in the tournament, with more than 220 guests in attendance for the Champions Charity Dinner Celebration. The foundation raised net proceeds of $21,000.

Alison Bologna, WJAR 10 news anchor, awarded prizes to the first-place foursome consisting of Tom Ritocco, Jack Thompson, Ray Lathrop and Tom Nickerson, who had a score of 61. Closest-to-the-hole prizes went to Bruno Paglia, David Pisano, Joe Scotti and Mike Patricio. Winner of the long drive contest went to Bill Booth.

The outing was sponsored by the Cranston Fire Fighters Local 1363, Sports Illustrated/Golf Magazine and the Cranston Herald. Nissan Village of Attleboro provided a 2016 Nissan Maxima for a hole-in one prize, and a set of Taylor Made irons was provided by Golfers’ Warehouse. Other major supporters include East Coast Countertops, Carpet City USA, Arnold Lumber and Josh Edenbaum Photography.

“My brother, Jimmy, was committed to his family, friends, community, and brotherhood of firefighters, and was there for anyone in time of need. It is our mission to carry his legacy forward by giving back to the youth in our community, building future heroes and leaders,” said Lisa Pagano, president of the foundation.

This year, the foundation is partnering with Friends Way, a local youth bereavement organization, and the Cranston Public Schools to build a grief toolkit for each public school in Cranston. The toolkit will provide essential books and training for teachers to assist students and families in the event of a sudden death, as school administrators are usually the first to get notified. Additionally, the foundation will work with the Cranston Public Schools to develop a middle school theater arts program to introduce students to the creative and technical skills used in stage production.

“I am proud and gratified to see our community come together on this day each year in support of my brother and the causes we support in his memory,” Pagano said.

The mission of the foundation is to make charitable grants to individuals, groups and/or organizations that improve the quality of life for children, and foster character building and a strong foundation for their future. By funding these programs, the foundation hopes to develop future heroes and leaders who will in turn do the same in their communities.

In the past three years, the foundation has granted over $50,000 to athletic organizations, sixth-grade robotics STEM programming, college scholarships and more. For more information, visit jimpaganofoundation.com.
