Stepping out to benefit community

Conditions were perfect Saturday for the seventh annual Rocky Point 5K organized by the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce for the community. The event takes runners and walkers on a course that follows the Rocky Point coastline, ending where it all started at Warwick Neck School. Over the years, the event has raised more than $62,000 for the benefit of nonprofits and the Rocky Point Foundation. In addition to the foundation, Lauren Slocum, president and CEO of the chamber, said funds will benefit Bridgemark addiction and recovery center to pay for sign language interpreters and Habitat for Hamunity West Bay and Northern Rhode Island Chapter.
