50 years of Beach Boys’ ‘Pet Sounds’ at library event

In 1966 Brian Wilson took The Beach Boys in a new direction away from fun and happy surf tunes and created an introspective masterpiece. Inspired by The Beatles album “Rubber Soul,” “Pet Sounds” was itself the inspiration for “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and the LP that briefly made The Beach Boys equals with The Beatles in the minds of listeners and critics alike.

In celebration of 50 years of “Pet Sounds,” librarian Wil Gregersen will introduce the album, listen to the entire recording, and talk about what the music says to you at Warwick Public Library on Tuesday, May 3 at 7 p.m. Music promoter Al Gomes will drop by, too, with a greeting from The Beach Boys and the producers of the “Pet Sounds” 50th anniversary box set.

Sign up online at warwicklibrary.org or call 739-5440 x4. For more information, call 739-5440 x221. The library is located at 600 Sandy Lane. This event is free and open to all.
