$650,000 foundation grant to fund CCRI student performance incentives

In a second historic action in as many weeks, the Hassenfeld Family Foundation has donated $650,000, the largest gift in CCRI’s 53-year history, to launch the “Rhode Island Promise Plus” program.

This program will offer additional funds to Pell-eligible RI Promise students who complete college success milestones identified by the college. Each time a student completes a milestone, he/she will receive $100. There are five milestones during the first year, meaning RI Promise students can receive up to $500 as they stay on track to graduate.

Last week the college announced the largest individual donation it its history, $500,000 donation from local philanthropist

Bhikahji Maneckji to launch a “Last Mile Scholarship” program.

Rhode Island Promise Plus, which follows a nationally proven model, will assist students in following clear pathways to success while providing them with additional funds to cover other college expenses like textbooks and transportation. It will be available to the nearly 800 RI Promise students who are eligible for federal Pell grants.

“We are so grateful to the Hassenfeld Family Foundation for its immense generosity and dedication to student success,” said Meghan Hughes, President of CCRI. “It is critical to our college and our state that our RI Promise students graduate, transfer to four-year colleges and universities, and move into high-quality careers right here in Rhode Island.

The Hassenfeld gift provides additional critical incentives to ensure students will take the steps we know are critical to their success.”
