Cardi Construction crews have started clearing of the former Apponaug Mill site in preparation for the extension of Veterans Memorial Drive west to link at a roundabout at the intersection of Toll Gate and Centerville Roads. The work will include the “airing” of Hardig Brook that now flows under the property and the removal of the water tower. The tower is not projected to come down until next year. The saw-tooth building that was part of the mill will be left standing. When completed in about three years, the Apponaug Circulator will be comprised of five roundabouts and is designed to alleviate village traffic congestion while creating a more pedestrian-friendly village.
