A hot job

Being a lifeguard would seem like the perfect job during the recent hot spell and, indeed, it does have its advantages, says lifeguard weekend supervisor Patrick Luiz. Luiz, who has worked as a city lifeguard for the past four summers, enjoys being outside and helping people. He’s assisted with those who have gotten too far off shore. On Sunday afternoon he made his rounds, stopping at Conimicut Beach where he met up with Ryan Watkins, seen here putting on his flotation device, and Briana Tomaselli. A fourth-year lifeguard, Tomaselli said she loves the job even though “it might be a little too hot.” She was thinking a job with air conditioning might be preferable. Oakland Beach remained closed to swimming yesterday because of high bacteria counts.
