A new kind of ‘car show’ at Warwick Museum of Art

Posted

With summer finally here, the Warwick Museum of Art is having an exhibit to exemplify the memories that make this season a favorite.

The “Summer Cruising: Art of the Auto” exhibit, that will be display at the museum from now until July 19, has 55 items from paintings, photos, prints and 3-D art that celebrate cars and their tight connection to summertime. Summer is the time for drive-ins, long road trips and days at the beach, and cars have always been connected to these memories. Cars help us get to where we are going, but more than a mode of transportation, cars give people a way to connect to one another.

Not only will established artists from across the nation have art on display, but local Warwick artists will as well. Jeffrey Goldstein, Joan Edge, Christopher St. Pierre, Barbara deCesare and Kerri Bastien will all have works from their collections in the show.

On Tuesday, July 25 there will be an opening reception for the exhibit from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests can snack on light refreshments while talking with some of the artists about their work. It is a good way to become more intimate with each piece of artwork. All of the pieces are for sale and can be purchased at the reception.

On Tuesday, July 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. there will also be an Artist’s Gallery Talk. Guy Cassaday, Corey Silvia and Peter Elsworth, a writer for the Providence Journal, will be attendance. Each will speak about not only art but also their passion for cars before opening up the event to a Q&A. Both events are free and open to the public.

For more information on the artists for the Gallery Talk visit their websites atfineartimages.com or coreysilviaphotographs.com. For more information on the event visit the Warwick Museum of Art’s website, warwickmuseum.org or call 737-0010.
