Gene is one of my closest friends, so I know that he attends all School Committee meetings as well as most, or all, City Council meetings. He meets frequently with Mayor Avedisian and our superintendent of schools to say nothing of attending appropriate sessions of our state legislature where he speaks out on legislation affecting Warwick’s schools. He is on a first name basis with school principals, and I know that he occasionally takes time to read to grammar school kids. Further, Gene attends school events such as plays and concerts. Being retired from the banking profession, he has the time to devote to his School Committee obligations. Gene returns all phone calls, and believe me that there are hundreds of both.
In my lifetime I have known many elected officials, and I say without reservation that Gene is the most dedicated that I have ever met. To lose his participation in the Warwick School Committee would be a grave loss for Warwick’s young people and their families.
