A proud loser

Jerome Biggars of Wichita, Kansas, who lost 300 pounds in 16 months with the Medi-Weightloss program, paid a visit to the Warwick clinic while here for the CVS Caremark Downtown 5K. Plagued by overweight for 25 years, Biggars said he maintains his new self by "making the right choices" as to what he eats and his exercise. He finds cycling especially good and has just taken up swimming. Now he travels the country promoting the weight loss program. "Meeting people is the most exciting part," he said. "What a change from being bedridden." His wife, who also had a weight problem, has lost 140 pounds. She is now 180 pounds. They are parents of two children, who Biggars said, "have the good genes." They don't have a weight problem. Biggars said he maintains an active schedule of blogging and public appearances and "dedicating myself to others to do what I have found ... life." Biggars once weighed 493 and now tips the scale at 210. Here, with a pair of jeans that fit him at 493 pounds, are Miranda Gaffney, a nutritionist; Cheryl Trottier, a medical assistant; and Hope Parish, a physician’s assistant, all at Medi Warwick. Biggars’ waist size went from 72 to 38 inches. (Submitted photo)
