A rite of fall at St. Barnabas

While the St. Barnabas Episcopal parish has been an integral part of Apponaug Village for more than a century, its annual Christmas bazaar has been an ageless rite of fall.

“Our parishioners worked extremely hard to create those one-of-a-kind treasures for holiday shoppers,” said Joseph Rodgiques, the senior warden at St. Barnabas. “Our bakers are some of the best around, and they’ve cooked all kinds of cakes, pies, cookies, candy and fudge. We have something for everyone!”

This year’s St. Barnabas Bazaar featured a full lunch that was made and served in Schweitzer Hall.

“That was probably the reason people kept coming and going all day [last Saturday],” said Bonne Simonian.

This year’s bazaar featured everything from a 32-inch television, Keuric coffee maker, HD Nook Table-Reader, French wines, a 100-plus prize Penny Social, theme baskets and crafts, chocolate and tea baskets, and lots of help from many dedicated parishioners.

Each booth was manned by parish volunteers, three of which featured three generations of family. Even some members of the St. Barnabas Youth Group – D.J. Carrigan, Tim and Rachel Beaudreau – ran the White Elephant Room with their parents, Ed and Kerin Beaudreau with help from Pruet Beauregard.
