A ‘silver lining’ in last week’s election?

To the Editor:

Despite the disappointment for most freedom lovers over last week’s elections, there is a clear silver lining that we must recognize: that almost everywhere in the USA, more and more Americans are speaking out against and rejecting the liberal status quo.

There is no major reason why Rhode Islanders cannot join the wave. Before conservatives and libertarians can regularly win elections, open-minded Ocean Staters must become comfortable that freedom-based public policies are really in their best interests, as opposed to dependency based government programs.

In order to change the hearts and minds of those voters, we must demonstrate to our neighbors that the status quo liberal polices are not enhancing their lives and that pro-jobs policies are the true solutions that can help them rise up the income ladder. This “soften the beaches” grassroots advocacy strategy is the necessary first step to reforming our state. Otherwise, politicians we support will continue to face hardened opposition.

Please be reminded that in addition to advancing pro-growth and pro-freedom policy solutions, our center also plays a leading role in organizing and building a statewide coalition that can help advance the ideas that can transform lives for the better. Our center, in conjunction with dozens of other organizations and hundreds of individuals across the state, are already hard at work to implement a new strategy to make this happen. After seeing the progress of our peer organizations across America in this regard, it’s just a matter of time – a short time – before Rhode Island will fall in line. I’m more confident than ever that our center’s work can be the catalyst to make this happen.

I write to you today with an even greater resolve than I held prior to the election. I hope you feel the same and I ask you to continue to support the important work of our center.

Mike, I will listen to any pragmatic idea that will truly create jobs for the jobless. But this love affair with capitalist free market buzz words has all the fervor of a religious revival with the BORN AGAIN TV evangelist telling the credulous faithful to make Jesus their partner in business. Or if you are not religious, there is always crackpot Ayn Rand and her " Virtue of Selfishness ". And also the mob of Tea Party true believers in the magic of the capitalist profit system. How many working class people can you convert to the religion of capitalism ? A lifetime of exploitation and oppression has taught them NOTHING about the real nature of the beast ? Capitalists are capitalists for the benefit of the working class ?

Reactionary Red Eye Talk Radio ( John DePetro's station ) just told me that state workers have no inherent right to a union. Expert on inherent rights , the ONE WAY TALKER also tells us that there is no inherent right to a job if you are jobless, no inherent right to a home if you are homeless, no inherent right to medical care if you are sick, no inherent right to your own liberal-progressive-socialist Talk Radio Show if you do not own a radio station. No inherent right to a college education if you are poor.

But is there any CLASS with a greater sense of entitlement than our very own ONE PERCENT plutocracy ? They think they own the whole world by divine right ! They all have the mentality of a cheap, lousy , lying, cheating SLUM LANDLORD. That is your capitalism in all its glory !

President Obama's real problem is that he is a neo-Democrat who makes FDR look like a flaming Bolshevik. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION

Just a brief update here : The day after I made the above rather strident COMMENT, I caught Mr..Mike Stenhouse being interviewed on the " Red Eye " station ( john@630wpro.com ) . I am not a fan of Senator Sheldon Whitehouse but he does often show some good old fashioned liberal spark. Mike said that Senator Whitehouse thinks of his group - The Rhode Island Center for Freedom & Prosperity as " a bunch of kooks " .

Now I wonder why ? Mike is also free to comment in my blog ( above ) . Ron Ruggieri, Cranston
