A special birthday party

KINDER MASS: The children gathered at the front of the church to celebrate Christ’s birthday at Trinity Church in Pawtuxet Christmas Eve afternoon in a service conducted by The Rev. Mitchell Lindeman and his wife, The Rev. Eileen Lindeman.

HE SLEPT THROUGH IT: At five weeks old, Evan Medeiros was the youngest of attendees at the Kinder Mass. He’s cradled her by his mother Jody as his father, Paul, looks on.

ANXIOUS TO BE A PART OF IT: Kate Blue and her children Ava and Matthew patiently wait to be called up to participate in the service.

SOMETHING NEW: The Rev. Mitchell Lindeman initiated the service that he is hopeful will become a Christmas Eve tradition involving children and sharing the meaning of Christmas

ABOUT TO BURST: Held by The Rev. Mitchell Lindeman one of children delivers a crushing blow to the piñata that soon split sending it candy cargo spilling across the floor.

It was a Mass and a party Christmas Eve at Trinity Church in Pawtuxet. The afternoon “Kinder Mass” involved children in the service, which after Holy Communion and a processional to Feliz Navidad where the congregation sang and rattled maracas, ended with a party in the parish hall and the breaking of two piñatas. The Rev. Mitchell J. Lindeman, who initiated the service, was the celebrant assisted by his wife, The Rev. Eileen Cornish Lindeman. About 100 attended the service and there was no lack of enthusiasm when it came to breaking the piñatas. (Warwick Beacon photos)
