A pedestrian who was struck by a car on Post Road on May 1 has died, according to a news release from the Warwick Police on Monday. The pedestrian, identified as 51-year-old Darrell Daugherty, with a last known address of Market St. in Warren, passed away at Rhode Island Hospital over the weekend.
A 31-year-old Warwick man was driving the car that struck Daugherty just before 10 p.m., but police attributed the accident to road and light conditions at the time and no charges have been filed against the driver.
Police said their investigation disclosed that the car was heading south on Post in the area of Fisher Avenue when Daugherty was crossing the road in a westerly direction. Police said neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be a factor. Visibility at the time was only fair due to the overcast conditions and the time of night with minimal street lighting. Police said Daugherty was wearing dark clothes and headphones at the time, which most likely exacerbated the situation.
Police said yesterday that Daugherty’s family is making plans for the funeral services.
