The honors keep piling up for Warwick’s Melanie Brunelle.

For the ninth time during the 2015-2016 indoor track and field season, Brunelle – who is only a freshman at Rhode Island College – has been named the Little East Conference Rookie Women’s Field Athlete of the Week.

“She’s having a great, great run,” Scott Gibbons, RIC’s veteran and award-winning Media Relations Director, offered Tuesday. “She’s also a huge reason for our team’s success.”

Brunelle’s latest accomplishment was finishing second in the triple jump with a RIC-record setting 11.86 meters and 14th in the high jump at 1.61 meters.

Her performance came during the New England Open Championships that were held at Boston University last weekend. The Anchorwomen finished 25th out of 36 teams with a score of 25. The Northeastern University Lady Huskies won the overall event championship with a score of 157.

Brunelle and her Anchorwomen teammates will be back in action tomorrow (March 4) when they compete in the Tufts University Last Chance Meet in Boston.
