Spring may be a ways off, but the Rhode Island chapter of the National Softball Association is already gearing up for another big season in Warwick.
Meetings will be held all day on Sunday, January 29 at Warburton Arena for any new teams who are interested in joining one of the adult softball leagues. Meetings begin at 1 p.m., with different times for different leagues. For more information contact NSA state director Bob Berard at 286-2185.
There will also be a meeting Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Warwick Public Library for anyone interested in umpiring. For more information, contact George Moyle at 286-2528.
Last season, thanks to volunteers running the leagues and the work of the recreation and public works departments, over 1,600 softball games were played in Warwick. Several events were also held for charity, and the leagues raised more than $25,000 for a variety of causes.
This season, Warwick will once again welcome an NSA World Series to town, with as many 30 teams expected to participate. The NSA is also working to build a picnic area in City Park to help make the facility even more attractive to softball organizers.
