Alive at Hendricken Summer Stage

AND THAT’S NOT ALL OF THEM: Many of the cast, numbering 40, confront the baker’s wife, played by Julianna Fielding, in this scene.

Kate Fitzgerald, who plays Little Red Riding Hood, is distraught after the baker makes off with her red cape in a scene from Into the Woods opening tonight at Summer Stage at Bishop Hendricken and playing through Sunday.

ROYAL DECISIONS: Jordan Carvalhal, who plays Rapunzel’s prince and Kevin Madoian, who is cast as Cinderella’s prince consider how best to win – actually find – their princesses.

THEIR WISH IS A CHILD: Matthew Beaune and Julianna Fielding are cast in the role of the baker and his wife. They seek to acquire the items demanded by the witch, played by Victoria Soucy, to have their dream fulfilled.

LETTING DOWN HER HAIR: Rapunzel, played by Michaela Viera, lets down her hair for the prince of her dreams.

IN TUNE: Sean Donnelly conducts the orchestra, which is comprised of adult and student musicians.

In an elaborate production involving more than 80 young people from actors to production team, technical crew and orchestra, Summer Stage at Bishop Hendricken will stage “Into the Woods” opening tonight and running through Sunday at the Harrop Theater at the school. Show times are 7 p.m. tonight through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The set, which is a library, is filled with books that the cast and crew collected. After making their stage appearance, the more than 3,000 books will go to Books are Wings, a Rhode Island based organization “committed to children, community, service and literacy.” The organization sponsors book parties at local libraries, giving children the opportunity to experience the joy of reading by choosing their own books. Julia Paolino and Brendan McNamara, both college students, direct the performance. Summer Stage at Bishop Hendricken is a program open to students from across the state and managed by drama and musical professionals. (Warwick Beacon photos)
