Ocean State Artisans held their 23rd annual holiday Craft Festival Friday and Saturday at the Knight Campus of CCRI. Artisans’ president Ron Schmitz, who paints and takes pictures of lighthouses, said proceeds from the fair, which include canned good donations and gate proceeds, go to the charity. Food donations went to the Community Food Bank while cash went to Serve Rhode Island. Volunteers from Serve Rhode Island assisted with the setup and take down of the show. Those with displays can only sell handmade crafts – no manufactured goods are permitted. Schmitz said 98 artisans had displays with many coming from Connecticut and Massachusetts in addition to those from Rhode Island. Schmitz’s interest in lighthouses stems from New England’s maritime history and by painting and photographing them, he aims to bring awareness and preserve them. (Warwick Beacon photos)
