Alliance Security leaving for Cranston, undisclosed venture planned here

Over the past 11 years, Alliance Security, a Rhode Island-based home automation and security company, has made significant strides in contributing to the local economy. This year, the company projects revenue to exceed $100 million and its workforce to double from 300 to 600 employees.

With growth comes change, and the need for a bigger space.

Over the past month, the company has been relocating operations from Warwick to Cranston, a move that is directly correlated to its growth, according to Alliance Security CEO Jay Gotra.

“Simply put, we outgrew our space,” said Gotra, who started the company in 2003, operating out of a spare room in his apartment. “Eleven years later,” he adds, “the company’s new home will be a 60,000 square-foot facility located at 85 Garfield Avenue in Cranston.”

According to Gotra, the move has positive implications not only on Alliance, but on Rhode Island’s quality of place, as well. That’s because the building formerly occupied by Katherine Gibbs School since 2008 has been vacant for three years.

“We’re humbled to revitalize and transform a great space that has been empty for quite some time,” said Gotra. “It’s all about bringing life and energy back into the community.”

Alliance Security’s contribution to the community has also come in other forms. In 2013, the company sparked a long-term partnership with the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence (RICADV). In doing so, Alliance Security has offered financial and operational support to the nonprofit, as well as alarm systems and monitoring at no cost to victims of domestic violence as part of the Friends of RICADV program.

Gotra continues, “The hunger to continually improve on Alliance Security’s socio-economic impact defines us, and it’s a community-centric approach that ensures a win-win for us and those we serve.”

“It has been wonderful to see Alliance Security experience such success and growth in our community, and this is certainly an exciting next chapter in their story,” said Mayor Scott Avedisian. “Strong local economies benefit not only individual cities and towns, but our state as a whole, and I am thrilled to congratulate Alliance Security on these new developments. I am also very pleased to see such a fast-growing Rhode Island company and one that is committed to remaining in our state prepare to double its workforce, bringing more job opportunities to Rhode Island.”

Avedisian noted that Gotra has plans to bring an entirely different venture to his existing Warwick location.

“My administration is excited that Alliance Security wants to remain a part of Warwick’s business landscape and that these efforts will create new jobs in a totally different industry sector that will draw people to our community. We look forward to working with the company as its plans progress and helping to ensure that this new business is as successful as Alliance Security has been here in Warwick.”

In addition to its increasing workforce, Alliance Security’s revenue has jumped from $2.5 million in 2010 to $52 million in 2014, positioning the company as one of the fastest-growing, private companies in America.

“As far as we’ve come in our 11 years, I believe Alliance can do more, and the chance to do so motivates us to put more pressure on ourselves to sustain our competitive advantage,” concluded Gotra.

“I am pleased to see that Alliance Security, another growing and thriving business, has chosen Cranston as their new home. We welcome them with open arms and look forward to them becoming part of our vibrant community. I am particularly supportive of businesses that give back to the community and Alliance Security’s efforts with the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence serves as a perfect example of that civic spirit,” said Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung in a statement.
