Amazing Wish Race to send participants on RI scavanger hunt

The 4th Annual Amazing Wish Race will be held Saturday, Oct. 19. This event, awarded “Best Charity Event” in 2012 and “Most Creative Fundraiser” in 2013 by Rhode Island Monthly, is a scavenger hunt unique to Rhode Island. It will be hosted by Louie Stravato of TV’s “The Amazing Race” Season 16.

Teams of up to four can be created and participants can register at www.cwishesri.com or at the Children’s Wishes office. For a registration fee of a $25 donation per person, each participant will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt, a day of fun and a ticket to the wrap-up awards party.

The race kick-off will be held at the Children’s Wishes office, 2346 Post Road, Suite 102, Warwick, from 9 to 11 a.m. where teams will receive their first clue and then continue on their scavenger hunt throughout the state. Teams will complete challenges that will be taking place at certain locations in Rhode Island. These locations and challenges will remain undisclosed until the day of the event.

Last year, teams participated in fun challenges such as hitting baseballs for wishes at the East Commerce Solutions batting cage; completed a mini scavenger hunt at a Cardi’s Furniture store; drank Awful Awfuls as fast as they could at Newport Creamery; went through an obstacle course at Warwick Dance & Gymnastics Academy; raced through a corn maze at Confreda Farms; climbed rock walls at Rock Spot Climbing; put cootie bugs together blindfolded at Big Blue Bug Solutions; solved puzzles and more! This year the challenges and venues will be different and will be a surprise for the participants but will vary like last year from food challenges to puzzles.

The event will conclude with an awards party at Grid Iron Alehouse & Grille, 1599 Post Road, Warwick at 7 p.m. Winning teams will be awarded prizes and enjoy a free dinner buffet. Wish race participants will receive a free ticket to the after-party event and non-wish race participants can purchase tickets to the after-party event in advance or at the door for a $10 donation. All proceeds go to Children’s Wishes and will help us to grant wishes with love! Please contact Dana Hrabcsak for more information about this event or Children’s Wishes.

Children’s Wishes is a non-profit organization that was created in April of 2009 to grant wishes to children between the ages of 2½ and 18 years of age with life-threatening illnesses. Our organization works to create the opportunity for these children to believe in magic and infuse hope and happiness into their lives. Our first wish was granted on Oct. 30, 2009.
