American Cancer Society needs Cancer Resource volunteers

Posted

The American Cancer Society, in collaboration with hospitals across Rhode Island, is currently seeking individuals interested in volunteering as a Cancer Resource Volunteer at Providence hospitals, including Rhode Island Hospital, Miriam, Woman & Infants’ and Roger Williams Medical Center.

Full training is provided to enable volunteers in providing direct outreach to cancer patients and their loved ones. Volunteers speak with cancer patients who are receiving treatment and share information about the Society’s Cancer Resource Network of available support programs and services.

Cancer Resource Volunteers provide up-to-date, easy to understand cancer information, assist with practical problem solving of concrete needs such as housing, finances, and transportation; facilitate a link to local, state, and national resources; provide referrals and compassionate listening throughout the patient’s cancer journey.

For more information, contact Alexandra Fiore at 243-2640 or Alexandra.fiore@cancer.org.
