Chianti’s on Forge Road in Potowomut recently underwent $150,000 in renovations, giving both indoor and outdoor dining areas a new, more open and contemporary feel. The restaurant has been owned by the Martucci family for the past nine years, with Thomas Joseph [TJ] Martucci running the restaurant, as his father Vinnie has retired. TJ recently gave Mayor Scott Avedisian a tour of the establishment, pointing out that he plans to expand the business while maintaining its tradition of fine Italian cooking. A former Fortune 500 corporate executive, TJ has re-staffed the kitchen with chefs from New York and Federal Hill to enhance Chianti’s tradition of Italian cuisine. He said the “mantra” for what Chianti’s offers is “affordable elegance.” He has introduced “Sunday Pranzo,” a family style fixed price all you can eat menu at $16.50 for adults served all day Sunday. Asked if there is a limit on family sizes he can accommodate, TJ said, “From two to 100, we’ve got the room.” Chianti’s, now serving lunch, is open from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 4 to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, 12 to 9 p.m. He said changes have already resulted in 12 new jobs. The East Greenwich Rotary Club meets weekly at the restaurant.
