To the Editor:
On October 29 the Warwick Beacon published my letter about Jim Webb who was a candidate for President of the United States. What happened to Jim Webb?
Webb was that other guy who dropped out of the Democratic race for President of the United States. Since Rhode Island’s very own Lincoln Chafee dropped out around the same time, it was an event that might have been easily overlooked.
Former Senator Webb of Virginia has been seriously contemplating an Independent run for president. A great number of registered Rhode Island voters consider themselves unaffiliated perhaps because they can pick and choose which primary they wish to enter or maybe neither of the two major parties suit them. A formal announcement from Webb should be made around the beginning of the new year.
In anticipation of Webb’s expected revival of his candidacy as an Independent, volunteers such as myself who are not officially part of the campaign have set up Facebook pages where voters can go to learn about Jim Webb and connect to the official page. Each state has its own page.
Does the current political climate leave you feeling disillusioned? Are you fed up with politics in general? Is something lacking in this election cycle? None of the many names out there just don’t seem to measure up? Do they all seem to have a similar message? Can’t tell a Republican candidate without a scoreboard? Do the GOP debates seem like an episode of Survivor or American Idol? There is no question that an ideological divide exists and it needs fixing.
As editor of the Rhode Island for Jim Webb Facebook page, I encourage you the reader to go on the site, learn more, give it a like and tell all your friends about Jim Webb the Independent Candidate for President.
