Anna F. (Gibbons) Nagle

Anna F. (Gibbons) Nagle, passed away on February 3rd at the age of 94, surrounded by her loving family.

Anna was the second-youngest of nine siblings born to John and Annie L. Gibbons. She grew up at a time when large families were the norm, everyone was related in some way, the local parish was the center of both religious and social connectedness, and hard work and sacrifice were a way of life. She met her husband Austin J. Nagle at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in 1948. Although Anna reluctantly confirmed that Austin didn’t have the best dance moves, he managed to sweep her off her feet for fifty-seven years. They too had a large family - seven children who expectedly differed in personalities, opinions, talents, and perspectives. The house was always full of noise, laughter, friends, and raucous political debate. Everyone learned to share, become self-reliant, independent and interdependent thanks to Mom. Anna loved simple things – dancing the jitterbug to Tommy Dorsey, eating snowball cupcakes with Lipton tea, going for long rides on Sunday afternoons, ironing, and, most of all, being with her family. She maintained her sense of humor throughout her life and she never admitted to being older than twenty-nine. Anna could best be described as a woman who preferred to stay in the shadows so that those she loved could bask in the sunshine. Everyone who met her loved her and she loved them.

Her children and their spouses, Arlene and Anthony Bosco; Joan Hardy; Ann Marie Nagle; Joseph and Janice Nagle; Kathleen and Darrell DeFalco; Marjorie and Daniel Chouinard; and Lynn Nagle, take comfort in knowing that she was a woman of great faith and boundless love. Her twelve grandchildren, Michael, Timothy, Patrick, Donald, Brian, Kerrin, Colin, Austin, Kelsey, Corey, Katelyn, and Kimberlee, and nine great-grandchildren, Casey, Paige, Ava, Caden, Oliver, Donald, Victoria, Vera, and Connor, will always remember her as “Grama-Rama” or “Anna-Banana”.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, at 9:30 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick, with a mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Gregory the Great Church, Cowesett Rd., Warwick. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m.
