Antone, 4x800 relay earn titles as Hawks take second

Posted

Behind first-place finishes from Harry Antone in the 600 and the team of Antone, Nick Williams, Jordan Dagrin and Avery Ingegneri in the 4x800, the Bishop Hendricken indoor track team earned a second-place team finish with 66 points at the RIIL Indoor Track State Championships on Saturday at the Providence Career and Technical Academy.

The Hawks couldn’t keep pace with state champion La Salle (83 points), but had a great day overall.

In the 600, Antone barely edged last year’s state champion, Barrington’s Mars Bishop, and Williams for the state crown. Antone crossed the finish line with a time of 1:23.43, while Bishop came across at 1:23.52 and Williams at 1:25.53.

“It feels pretty great,” Antone said following the win. “I was just trying to get fourth, and then on that last turn my adrenaline kicked in and I gave it all I had. It worked out for the best.”

The Hawks’ only other first-place finish was in the 4x800, in which Hendricken outpaced Cumberland with a time of 8:10.89 to earn the title.

The Hawks would have several other athletes place for the meet as well. Abraham Salako came in third in the weight throw, while the 4x200 team of Jared Grossi, Ethan Pezzullo, Bobby Bordieri and Desmond Bernal also grabbed a third-place finish.

Chris Storti and Ethan Famiano earned fourth-place finishes in the shot put and hurdles, respectively, as did Hendricken’s 4x400 team.

The Hawks placed multiple athletes in the high jump and 3,000, too.

In the high jump, Michael Bittner, Caleb Wurster and Michael Duckworth took third, fourth and fifth, while Dom Parlato (fifth) and Tom McMahon (sixth) also put forth strong showings in the 3000.

Titans earn fifth, Pats earn sixth at girls’ state meet

The Toll Gate girls’ indoor track team finished in fifth on Saturday at the state meet with a point total of 33, while Pilgrim took sixth with 20 points.

Toll Gate was led by second-place finishes from Courtney Jacobsen in the weight throw and Ani Armenakyan in the shot put.

Ashley Chin contributed with a third-place finish in the high jump, while Casey Gannon took fourth in the hurdles and Paige Carmichael was fifth in the weight throw.

The Titans also had two relays place. The 4x800 team of Samantha Pistacchio, Sarah Lavallee, Madison Gothberg and Sophia Maynard earned fourth, and the 4x400 team of Pistacchio, Lavallee, Gannon and Heather Allstrom placed sixth.

Pilgrim was also paced by a pair of second-place finishes, with Kayda Phillip earning runner-up in the long jump, and the 4x200 relay team of Phillip, Madison Stanley, Nicole Morales and Emma Landroche just missing first.

The Pats also had two athletes place sixth in their respective events – Danika Wayss in the 1,000 and Chelsea Yang in the weight throw.

Asoroona places for Pats

Pilgrim senior Austin Asoroona earned a third-place finish in the 55-meter dash on Saturday at the state meet with a time of 6.63 seconds.

He fell to La Salle’s Sam Coleman, who finished with a time of 6.48 seconds to earn the state crown.
