Since the organization began four years ago, Families First RI Moms Helping Moms has been committed to mentoring Rhode Island mothers. The group matches well-trained volunteer mothers with mothers dealing with postpartum depression, single parenting and other health or financial stresses.
On Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m., Families First will hold their annual Spring Fling at the West Valley Inn in West Warwick. The evening will feature live music, raffles, dinner and special guests appearances.
The major priority of Family First is to provide a support system for new mothers. On top of the mentoring program, the organization sponsors educational social events to address questions young mothers might have.
Families First also connects mothers to community resources such as daycares and playground groups.
The growing organization has helped more than 350 mothers since it first started in 2008 and currently has 180 volunteers. Proceeds from the Spring Fling will go toward payment for clinician hours, training sessions for volunteers and the day-to-day expenses of the organization.
“We rely heavily on the generosity of others,” says Families First Executive Director Sally Stevenson.
Tickets are $75 each and can be purchased directly through www.familiesfirst.org or by mailing a check to Families First RI Offices at 16 Stimson Avenue, Providence, RI 02906.
