Area Burger King restaurants raise $30,000 for Jimmy Fund

Posted

Burger King restaurants in Warwick, Cranston and Johnston raised more than $30,000 of the $142,000 from the 64 Jan Companies operated restaurants in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont from July 29 through September 8 for the Jimmy Fund.

The Jan Companies-owned Burger King restaurants have now contributed close to $2 million dollars toward pediatric cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund clinic since the program’s inception in 2000.

“It is an inspiration to see the work that Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund clinic does,” said The Jan Companies chief operating officer, Bill Janikies in a press release.  “The success of this program in The Jan Companies’ Burger King restaurants is a testament to the hard work of our employees.  They make it a point to try and raise every last dollar they can to help fight cancer.  They are outstanding.”

In return for a $1 contribution to the Jimmy Fund, Burger King guests received a scratch card guaranteed to be a winner, with prizes ranging from vacations, airline tickets, theme park admissions and Burger King menu items.

“We are proud of the work we have done, and will continue to do, on behalf of The Jimmy Fund.  It is an outstanding cause,” said Janikies.  “We would also like to thank everyone in the Warwick community that visited our restaurants during the campaign and made a donation.  We couldn’t have raised this money without you.”

The Jan Companies, founded in 1969, is one of the largest private businesses in the state of Rhode Island, employing over 1,700 people in the state with an additional 2,300 in six other states. The Jan Companies owns and operates 100 Burger King locations across seven states, 4 country clubs, the Newport Creamery chain (12 locations), The Country Inn (in Warren), Krispy Kreme (Mohegan Sun locations) and two Popeye’s locations.
