Armenakyan leads Titans at freshman states

The girls’ indoor track freshman state championship was held on Tuesday at the Providence Career and Technical Academy, with Toll Gate’s Ani Armenakyan leading the Titans to a sixth-place finish overall.

La Salle won the meet with 61 points. Toll Gate had 26, while Vets came in 19th with five points and Pilgrim came in 20th with four points.

Armenakyan was Warwick’s top performer. Competing in the shot put, Armenakyan took first place with a throw of 30 feet, 1.5 inches. That was more than four feet further than the second-place finisher.

Also helping the Titans was Jasmine Gallo-Fusco, who took fifth in the shot put and third in the weight throw. Toll Gate’s 4x800 relay team of Madison Gothberg, Lian Smithers, Hannah Senerchia and Makenna Dacey finished in third, while its 4x400 team of Karla Wolstenholme, Smithers, Lilly Fortin and Paige Ellis took fifth. Its 4x200 team of Fortin, Wolstenholme, Ellis and Gothberg was ninth, while Meghan Bromage added a 10th place in the weight throw.

Pilgrim’s top finishers were Bryana Mullin, who came in fifth place in the 3,000 and Casey Cokely, who came in fifth in the weight throw and ninth in the shot put. Maranda Duffie finished 10th in the 600.

Vets’ points came from Ann Wajda, who finished in fourth in the weight throw and sixth in the shot put.
