Army Pvt. Joshua Rivera completes combat training

Army Pvt. Joshua Rivera has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, Rivera studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic First Aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Rivera is the son of Judith Davila of Newington, Conn. and Luis Rivera of Hartford and stepson of Rafael Ramirez of Newington. He is a 2008 graduate of Newington High School, Newington. He earned an associate degree in 2010 from New England Institute of Technology, Warwick.
