This Saturday Rhode Island school committee members and superintendents will attend a training seminar, School Committee 101, which provides essential information for success in their role as school officials. The session is being held at the Crowne Plaza, 801 Greenwich Avenue, Warwick from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Sponsored by the Rhode Island Association of School Committees, the seminar will address various topics including ethics and conflicts of interest, Rhode Island’s Open Meetings Law, and contract negotiations. Also, Deputy Education Commissioner David Abbott will be presenting on the latest Rhode Island Department of Education initiatives and regulations. Representatives from the Rhode Island Attorney General’s office and the Rhode Island Ethics Commission will also be presenting.

RIASC encourages all new school committee members to attend this vital session. All RIASC members and school superintendents will benefit from attending.

The Rhode Island Association of School Committees is a non-profit association dedicated to training and improving the effectiveness of Rhode Island school committee members in meeting their role and responsibilities to students, parents, administrators and taxpayers, while playing a leading role in shaping and advocating public education policy at the state and national levels.
