Attaining Eagle

Robert Beer II officially became an Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts, during an Eagle Scout Ceremony held on Friday, June 27 at Saint Kevin Church in Warwick. A reception was held in the Fr. O’Hara Church Hall, “which was my Eagle Scout project, in which I led volunteers and other Boy Scouts and gave back to the school and church I have attended for over a decade,” Beer said. Beer received many citations congratulating him on attaining Eagle Scout. Some include: President Barack Obama, NASA, President William Clinton, Pope Francis, Bishop Tobin of Providence, and the R.I. Senate and House of Representatives. Warwick senators William Walaska and Michael McCaffrey both attended and gave speeches honoring Boy Scouts and praising their community service and efforts for a better future. They also presented Beer with personal citations. Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian attended and gave a speech along with a personal citation. The Catholic Committee on Scouting provided a citation for earning the four Catholic awards in Boy Scouting, along with the Pillar of Faith. Fr. Robert Marciano, pastor of St. Kevin, guided Beer and honored him for renovating the Church Hall. “Boy Scout Troop 183 Warwick stood loyal by my side throughout my Scouting journey for six years,” Beer said, adding that a slideshow of the transition and transformation of Cub Scouting into Boy Scouting was provided, as well as a display of all achievements and awards within Scouting. More than 100 people attended the event. Beer wishes to thank the following people: His parents, Robert and Barbara, and sister Alexa Skye; family and friends; Mayor Scott Avedisian; Senators Michael McCaffrey and William Walaska; Troop 183 Warwick and Scoutmaster Gary Murphy; Father Robert Marciano, pastor of St. Kevin’s, and Deacon Fulton, of St. Kevin’s; Saint Kevin School and Church; Michael Gray, teacher at Bishop Hendricken, for integrating education and Boy Scouting; Roger Parent, principal of St. Kevin School; William White, event photographer and videographer; and all the other people that have helped me throughout my scouting journey and attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.
