Meet service dogs-in-training at the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane, Warwick on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 9:30 a.m. and learn how you can help people with disabilities gain independence by signing up to be a weekend puppy raiser for NEADS/Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans.

Weekend puppy raisers (and their dogs) will be at the Warwick Public Library community room from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. to describe their roles and answer questions about NEADS’ Prison Pup Program, in which specially selected prison inmates train puppies to be service dogs. The puppies live in the JJ Moran facility during the week and are “furloughed” on weekends to volunteer puppy raisers who live in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The weekend puppy raisers work on house manners, socialization and training. After roughly a year of training, the dogs are matched with people who have a disability, including many combat veterans.
