Avedisian encourages residents, businesses to take part in Warwick Energy Challenge

As the city enters the final month in its National Grid/SmartPower Rhode Island Energy Challenge: Find Your Four campaign, Mayor Scott Avedisian is reminding residents and local business that it’s not too late to take part in the program. The city will reach its goal if the equivalent of 5 percent of households sign up and will receive $7,500 from National Grid to help the community further its energy savings.

In May 2013, National Grid, working with the non-profit SmartPower, created the campaign to increase energy efficiency awareness. Since its inception, the program has engaged thousands of Rhode Islanders across the state to change their energy use behavior by taking four energy actions in their homes. Current and former program partners include North Smithfield, Newport, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, Citizens Bank, Arpin Group, Fidelity Investments, and Rhode Island Interfaith Power and Light.

Avedisian noted that the city has taken a number of steps to reduce waste, increase energy efficiency, and save money in municipal buildings. “Wasting energy is bad for the economy, and hurts our environment. By taking some of the simple steps that this challenge suggests, residents can realize cost savings in their own homes,” he said.
