Islands Variety Show

Trudeau Memorial Center will present its first Islands Variety Show Aug. 12 at 11 a.m. at the Larkin Recreational Building. Please arrive at 10:30 for great pre-show events.

Conimicut Village Association

The Conimicut Village will hold its monthly meeting tonight, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m. in the lower level of Woodbury Union Church, corner of Beach Avenue and West Shore Road. Join your neighbors and hear from the community police and get the final update on Saturday’s craft fair.

Gorton Monthly Luncheon

The Gorton High School monthly luncheon will be held at Top of The Bay in Oakland Beach Aug. 13 at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $15. Contact Dot at mcguinn@cox.net or 463-9535.

Conimicut Craft Fair

The annual Conimicut Craft Fair will be held Aug. 16 from noon until 5 p.m. at Conimicut Point Park, 1 Point Avenue, Warwick. Fair features live music, food and craft vendors and entertainment for children. The park also has beach access and a playground. Free admission to the park and the event.

Weekend of Celebration for Gortonites

Former students and friends of Gorton High School are invited to visit the school and stroll the corridors once again. The school will be opened Aug. 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Later that day will be a Knights of Columbus gathering from 4-9 p.m. Bring snacks: chips, dip, pizza, sandwiches, fruit and desserts. $3 per person. Plan on renewing friendships and reminiscing. On Aug. 17 the Gorton Grand Reunion will be held at the Radisson Hotel on Post Road in Warwick. $30 per person with dinner featuring roast top round of beef, baked ham and grilled boneless breast of chicken, served family style. Hi-Lo-Jack League

A new Hi-Lo-Jack card league will be starting Aug. 18 at the Buttonwoods Center at 12:45 p.m. Please arrive by 12:30. The group will play seven games in a table of six. Cost is $2 weekly, 10-cent ups, all money collected will go back to the players. On the 16th week there will be a banquet for all players. Call Ray Walsh, director, at 497-8097 for more information.

Gorton Orientation Nights

Gorton Junior High School will be hosting orientation nights for all incoming 7th grade students Aug. 18 and/or Aug. 19 from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. The students will receive their schedules, locker assignments, directions on how to open lockers and maps of the building. This is a great opportunity for you and your child to take a look at the schedule and locations of the rooms in advance and to ask any questions. You will also be able to hand in the school physical/immunization forms. The PTO will be accepting new memberships on this evening, and they will have information on school fundraising events.

Ocean State Toastmasters

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting Tuesday, Aug. 19 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Ocean State Toastmasters holds its regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. The organization has approximately 280,000 members in 116 countries. Ocean State Toastmasters is one of the oldest clubs in Rhode Island. Pilgrim Orientation

The staff and students of Pilgrim High School invite the Class of 2018 and new students to orientation and an ice cream social Aug. 20 from 6:30-8 p.m. All incoming 9th graders will receive their schedule that evening and meet with student leaders as they tour the building and discuss what makes a Patriot successful. Parents are invited to auditorium for a short program before all meet back for the ice cream social.

Retirees Association

The Warwick Municipal Retirees Association will be having their summer luncheon on Aug. 20, noontime, at the Top of the Bay restaurant in Oakland Beach. They will be raffling off a fantastic prize. Norwood Block Party

The Norwood Neighborhood Association’s Summer Block Party at the Gazebo on Pawtuxet Avenue will be held Aug. 20 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. (rain date Aug. 21).Come hungry and enjoy grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and drinks, all reasonably priced.Musical entertainment by Wooden Nickel. Summer Night Concert Series

The Apponaug Area Improvement Association presents its 4th Annual Music for a Summer Night Concert Series on the front steps of Warwick City Hall 6:30-8 p.m. The final performance will be held Aug. 21 with Ten Rod Ramblers Blues & Rock. In case of rain, concerts will be held in the Friendship Hall of Warwick Central Baptist Church Hall across from City Hall.

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held Aug. 21 at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. They will be discussing upcoming fund-raisers. Cruise Nights

Every Tuesday until September, the Greater Warwick Lions will be holding Cruising with the Oldies at Oakland Beach in Warwick from 4 p.m. to dusk. Sweet antique cars, DJ Dom playing the oldies, food vendors, raffles and prizes all with an ocean view. All proceeds benefit the Lions’ charities, Ronald McDonald House, children with cancer, Insight, children and adults in the community in need of glasses, scholarships awarded to Warwick students and JONAH. Cruise Night is weather permitting; check the Warwick Lions Cruise Night website for cancellations.
